‘Gudiya Kand’ The child rape and out rage                                                       01 May 2013
A five year old girl was raped and inhumanely treated by two young man who are the neighbors. Some very relevant question need to be raised in our minds and answered to ourselves.
·         Heinous crime was committed by ‘AAM Adami”
·         Can police provide protection to every child girl or a woman.
·         Why the parents of child, did not raise their voice loud and clear when the child was missing. The criminals must have lured the child earlier.
·         Our people on the roads are only playing polities not analyzing the  and suggesting ways to bring some check & balances.
·         Even electronic media is playing to the gallery

Some thought provoking ideas

lksp cnyks Sounds very moral and reforming. As it is underwear and Baniyan, this would take decades may be half a century. Women have been under social subjugation for centuries, even…….when a girl child is born in a family it is the sad day Infanticide is very common and girl child is often murdered immediately after birth. And we talk of respectablity  and dignityFor women in our society?
What are the real causes:

Exploding Population

1:25 billion now rising 1:40 billion by 2025
1.60 billion by 2050 2.00 billion by the end of the century
Rapidly declining polity opportunistic and way ward.
Declining standards of education at all levels
Declining  opportunities of employment and progress
All these lead to declining moral standards and leads unrest, social discrepancy social disharmony and crime would continue to rise
What do we do?
·         Well defined population policy
·         Effort to improve standard of education at all levels.
·         Generate Job opportunities.
·         Politicians to restrain and improve their conduct “stop politicking every issue”.
·         Castrate the rapists, specially child rapists
·         Hang the culprit immediately publicity. Even Sushma Swaraj advocated the same in the parliament.
·         Is the nation ready to deal with this Epidemic?

Fact File on Namo

Cabbages and kings                                                                      20 April 2013
Much like fascism in Germany, the rise of Narendra Modi’s BJP is driven by similar agendas of neo-liberal economic reform and communal polarization

While the Gujarat chief minister is mounting a feverish pitch for being projected as India’s future prime minister, his Bihar counterpart, a vital NDA ally, has not minced words in expressing total disapproval.

This, notwithstanding the choice of using platforms of India Inc. and the servile response that the Gujarat CM is getting, is chillingly reminiscent of the rise of Hitler and fascism. The CM, like the Walrus in Alice in Wonderland, has begun to speak many things- “cabbages and kings…..”

He wants to create a ‘vibrant’ India a la the illusory ‘vibrant’ Gujarat. The 2002 communal genocide in Gujarat is sought to be replicated for the rest of India as the foundation to achieve such‘vibrancy’.  This is the debt that the Gujarat’s chief minister claims to have repaid to his state and now wants to repay to India.

With little signs of reversal of our domestic economic slowdown and with the global economy continuing to falter, the yearning of India Inc. for profit maximization needs such a messiah. There is much historical evidence of how global big business, particularly US corporate giants, had played an important role in the rise of fascism. In his book, Wall Street and the Rise of Hitler, Antony Sutton provides a documented account of the role played by major US corporations in funding the rise of Nazism. The Guardian in its obituary of American historian, Gerald Feldman (January 15, 2008) says, “ Gerry wrote a sober, balanced but in many ways devastating official history of the Allianz Insurance Company whose chief Executive Kurt Schmitt was for a time Hitler’s economics minister.” Mischael Dobbs writes in the Washington Post (November 30, 1998), in an article “Ford and GM Scrutinized for Alleged Nazi Collaboration”: “ I regard Henry Ford as my inspiration’, Hitler told a Detroit News reporter two years before becoming the German Chancellor in 1933, explaining why he kept a life-size portrait of the American automaker next to his desk.

He says, “Fascism acts in the interests of extreme imperialists but is presents itself to the masses in the guise of the champion of an ill-treated nation and appeals to outraged national sentiments.” Further he says, “Fascism puts the people at the mercy at the most corrupt and venal elements but comes before them with the demand of an honest and incorruptible government. Speculating on the profound disillusionment of the masses, fascism adapts its demagogy to the peculiarities of each (situation)”.

History has its own ways of conveying messages through historical coincidence. It was on February 27, 1933, that the Reichstag (Germany’s seat of power) was set on fire. On February 27, 2002, Coach S-6 of the Sabarmati Express burst into flames at Godhra. The former was used by Hitler to launch a vicious anti-Communist repression, abrogate democratic rights, suspend the Weimar Constitution and proceed to consolidate Nazi fascism. The fire was later established to have been the handiwork of the fascist forces themselves. Further, on January 30, 1948, Mahatma Gandhi was assassinated. It is, indeed, an irony of history that on this very day, 15 years earlier, in 1933, Adolf Hitler was sworn in as the Chancellor of Germany.

We should not forget “Communalism generates hatred & divisiveness in the society, leads to rigidness and fundamentalism, fundamentalism leads to conflict situation, finally, ends up with, terrorism. Are we inclined. For a social divide of a kind which could lead to Polarization?

Fact File-Point to Ponder Comprehensive Ban on child Labour

Comprehensive Ban on child Labour
The Union cabinet on August 28 approved a proposal of the Ministry of Labour and Employment for amending the Child labour (Prohibition and Regulation) Act, 1986, for complete prohibition of employment of children below 14 years in all occupations. The proposal is also for prohibiting employment of persons below 18 years in hazardous occupations and processes in line with an International Labour Organization Convention.
At present, children under the age of 14 years are prohibited from employment in hazardous occupation and processes and their conditions of work are regulated in non-hazardous occupations and processes under the Act.
According to Census 2001, there were 12.6 million economically active children in the age-group of 5-14 years while the National Sample Survey data said the child workforce during 2004-05 was estimated at 9.07 million. The amendments would ensure that all children would be compulsorily admitted in schools as per Right to Education Act, 2009 instead to working in workplaces, an official release said they added that it would also enable India to ratify ILO convention 138 (minimum age for entry to employment) and convention 182 (prohibition of employment of persons below 18 years in hazardous occupations.)
The amendments also included renaming of Child labour (Prohibition and Regulation) Act as Child and Adolescent Labour (prohibition) Act and there will be no bar on children helping their families after school hours and in vacations, in field, home-based work (except commercial purpose).
Parents and guardians of children would be punishable under this Act only when they permit engagement of their children for commercial purpose in contravention to this Act.
The punishment of the offender under the Act would be striker and the offences would be cognizable. The maximum punishment under the Act has been increased from one year of imprisonment to two years, and fine from Rs. 20,000-Rs. 50,000 or both. For repeated offences, it has been raised to three years of imprisonment.
The overall responsibility for implementation of the Act will be vested with the district magistrate/deputy commissioner and monitoring and inspection will be done by the labour department.
Can we ever banish child labour?

Fact File-Point to Ponder India Top Arms Importer (2011-2012)

India Top Arms Importer (2011-2012)

India has topped a rating of the world’s largest heavy arms importers, released by the independent Stockholm International Peace Research institute (SIPRI), researching into conflicts, arms control and disarmament.
India is the world’s largest recipient of arms while South Korea is second and Pakistan and China are tied in third place.
According to the report, India accounted for 10 per cent to global arms imports between 2007 and 2011. Among the most significant contracts signed by India is the purchase of 120 Russian Su-300MK (Rising to 271) multirole combat aircraft, 29 Mig-29Ks and 20 British Jaguar fighters.
The top five arms importers include states in Asia and Oceania; India, South Korea , Pakistan, china and Singapore, which account for 30 per  cent  of all imports of major conventional weapons between 2007 and 2011.
The United States and Russia were named the key arms suppliers that accounted for 30 and 24 percent of all exports respectively.

Evryone’s in with a chance

Evryone’s in with a chance
Musharraf has little support but in today’s Pakistan, there are no clear winners or losers.

Musharraf faces a raft of legal cases and a Supreme Court that despises Him. Supporters who showed up at the airport to greet him just barely our numbered the journalists at the scene. The obvious answers that in a polity as unpredictable and in as much chaos as Pakistan’s, everyone has a chance of winning. And everyone has an even greater chance of holding the balance of power in the national assembly, no matter how few seats one wins.

What is more interesting is that Musharraf’s return is, merely the latest example of a dark horse trying to make a run at the national sweepstakes. The former cricketer, Imran Khan, rode high on curiously flush coffers but as been fading since. The mass protests by the religious-cum-political leader Muhammad Tahir-ul-Qadri muddied the political waters for a while. The dominant theory is that the military has been encouraging as many candidates to enter the fray as possible because of their concerns that the two main democratic parties, Nawaz Sharif’s Pakistan Muslim League (Nawaz) and Asif Ali Zardari’s Pakistan People Party, seem likely to divide the spoils between them. This is not a surprise.

However, the Pakistani military has never been as weak politically as it is today. The presidency, the judiciary, public opinion and the two largest parties are all outside the sway of the men in khaki. If the army, as is suspected, is at least passively behind Imran Khan’s brief surge in the polls and the return of Musharraf then these are all signs of desperation. Unable to divide and conquer the two main parties, Rawalpindi is reverting to salami tactics-trying to slice the electorate into as many thin slices as possible. This would lead to a fragmented assembly and, by default; power would gravitate back into the military’s hands.

Pakistan-Musharraf India

Musharraf returned to Pak after 4 years of self imposed exile, has not brought in any cheers.  During these 4 years he did not visit Pak-but he remained a high profile guest for various conclaves in India. He did impact and made absurd comments. During the last HT conclave in (Mar 2012) he justified Kargil intrusion. And even now (in Pak) he stated he is proud of invading Kargil. Musharraf should be compared and kept in the class of Hafeez Saeed. Hafeez Saeed by his planning took the lives of 166 people (in 26/11 attack 2008) where as Musharraf for taking 560 lives in his planned invasion in Kargil. Our media entertained him and applauded by and large “No Pakistan” leader can be trusted for their utterances and least Musharraf.

Among Indian leaders Musharraf can be easily compared with Mulayam. He (Mulayam Singh) is always changing his statements-morning to evening. Utterances are deceptive and mostly to be ignored. Rightly stated by RLD president Ajit Singh.

Allah to save Pakistan and May God help India.

The Fact File A Wasted Year

A Wasted Year
Akhilesh must make a fresh beginning in UP by ending criminalization of politics.
There seems little cause for cheer as Akhilesh Yadav, UP’s youngest chief minister, completes an year in office. Akhilesh had caught the UP along the path of corruption-free development and progress. At the heart of his election campaign was his pledge to reinvent and modernize the anachronistic Samajwadi Party (SP).  A welcome assurance indeed, given that during its earlier sojourn the party had brazenly patronized criminal elements and promoted lawlessness across UP. That promise of reinvented governance had placed the SP in power in the state with a triumphant majority.
But Akhilesh reneged on his promise soon after coming to power. He inducted more than dozen ministers with criminal records into his cabinet, among them the infamous Raja Bhaiya, now under suspicion in the murder of a police officer. Even communal tension in the volatile state escalated with as many as 12 riots taking place in one year along. Besides, the party’s old guard has continued to middle in government’s affairs, stymieing much-needed political changes.
It is incumbent on the chief minister to keep the peace for his own as well as his government’s credibility. Weeding out criminal elements from his party and putting an end to criminalization of politics are essential to recasting SP in a new mould. Only then will it be possible to end the rowdy political culture. All, however, isn’t lost. There’s still sufficient time for Akhilesh to prove his sincerity and administrative mettle by turning up around. The most important challenge now is to clamp down on anti-social elements, even if it means facing down party elders. Akhilesh must immediately restore law and order before UP spins totally out of control.
Just distributing freebies (Laptops Tablets, Kanya Vidya Dhan) you can fool some for some time. These may win you politically, temporally and is not a permanent process of development.
State wide celebration and full page ads in Hindi dailies and National English dailies, spending crores would not change the public perception and existing “Law and Order” situation in the state.

Random Thoughts                                27 Feb 2013

Bengal is sitting on a powder keg

It is rare for the policeman to be killed on duty. It is inconceivable that a policeman can be shot dead in daylight] surrounded by colleagues, while his shooter escapes. Yet, under chief minister Mamata Banerjee’s watch, that is precisely what happened to sub inspector Tapas Choudhary on Tuesday, February 12, in the heart of Kolkata.

Media reports that trinamool leaders also told the police to arrest people from rival parties and keep off their own people. To its credit, Kolkata police went about its job competently and soon arrested Suhan and some of his associates. So far, all the people implicated in the crime seem to have links with the Trinamool. At the time of writing. Iqbal, one of the main accused, is on the run.

Today, both the Congress and CPM allege that Banerjee ‘s administration is trying to derail the investigation, because it points to people in the Trinamool. This is not hard to believe.

Since coming to power nearly two years ago, Banerjee and the party she leads have adopted a shockingly casual attitude to law and order in the state. One evening, Banerjee herself marched to a thana to order the release of her party’s goons. After a horrifying rape at Park Street, Banerjee initially denied the crime. After Kilkata police arrested some of the people involved-and proved that the rape had, indeed, occurred –Banerjee had the lead investigator, Damayanti Sen, transferred to another job.

Parallel to the process of emasculating the police, Banerjee is determined to prop up the goons who are the Trinamool’s real foot soldiers. Most of these people are petty enforcers and extortionists, who come to the aid of politicians when required. Bobby Hakim’s relationship with Iqbal illustrates this well.

Devoid of ideology, discipline and internal organization, the Trinamool is not constrained by anything other than Didi’s whims. And Didi has shown, again and again, her utter contempt for the law and the machinery to enforce it. This can only end in tears.

ASSASSINATION OF A SONG

A young girl band is silenced in Kashmir after a fatwa. Where will the infringement on freedoms stop?

Hindustani vocalist Shubha Mudgal believes that “tradition is never static. And rules can never be imposed”. But the rules in Srinagar are being imposed by a man who blames women for getting raped and insists that men cannot be blamed if something wrong happens to women. “If they want they can sing in front of their mothers and sisters,” Bashir-ud-Din told reporters on February 5.

Aneeka says she is “too little to know whether music is un-Islamic” as the Grand Mufti decreed. But thanks to ‘wise’ men like him, the teen trio has done some serious growing up in the past week.

Section of society have clamped down - On music and art as they have a very narrow understanding of tradition.”

Closing the mind

The narrative of hyper-nationalism and constant outrage at artistic expression is dominant today. There is no alternative narrative. This is dangerous for India.

The narrative of hyper-nationalism, hurt sentiments, constant outrage at artistic expression is dominant today. There is no alternative narrative, no alternative voice, no counter-argument to those daily upholding their religious, nationalist and regional credentials. Unless a robust alternative narrative emerges both in politics and in society, newer generations will continue to tear down paintings, burn novels and send out bloodthirsty war cries against, “traitors” and “anti-nationals”, because they will not know any better.
