must have triggered many minds. I travelled through the internet and tracked
photographs, on items of food, vegetables, fruits, milk, ghee, sweets,
condiments, tea leaves, is spared not, only that even medicines which are the
cure and life saving are adulterated. I also tracked various rivers being
polluted. Whether its Ganges the most sacred river from its origin uphill till
the end the river is highly polluted, Disposal of factory wastes, human wastes,
and dead bodies are flushed in to the river. Recently PM of Nepal (the only
Hindu state in the world) visited Varanasi, he worshipped there and thought of bathing
in the sacred river, but by seeing the filth and dirt around the river, he
changed his mind. Who is responsible for all their adulteration of food
Medicine River, We the people of India.
As the year was closing
possibly on a happy note. We faced the most gruesome crime on 16 Dec 2012
night. Crimes have been committed small or big from time and memorial but this
gang rape of a woman shook the whole nation. It appeared for few days as the
whole of India has been raped. People came on the roads demanding serious
action, as they felt their woman have become unsafe for normal like.
The essential
India
This year have us many joys
and disappointments.
We did not have a
tsunami-like natural disaster that kills hundreds and uproots many more. We did
not get thrown by a pandemic leading to countless deaths. We did not suffer air
accidents of the type that scarred 1966 when Air India flight 101 names
‘Kanchenjunga’ crashed into Mont Blanc, killing Homi Bhabha among 106 others
and 11 crew.
Or like the one that
disfigured 1985. With Air India flight 182 ‘Kanishka’ getting blown up mid-air,
killing 329 persons abroad, is including the distinguished chemical engineer, Y
Nayudamma. We did not have, in 2012, the kind of bizarre rail accidents like
the one over the Bagmati in Bihar (1981) at Gaisal (1991) and Firozabad (1995)
that killed hundreds of simple folk travelling on work or looking for work, on
pilgrimages, or to meet relatives.
We did not have political
assassinations, 26/11 type traumas. And, praise God, despite communal tensions
simmering in various parts of the country, riots of the 2002 kind were nowhere
around in 2012. We can give thanks for all this Negative, relief is relief.
But does the absence of pain
spell happiness?
Dark, Silent night
The Indian family hides
terrible secrets. Unless we reveal them in the cold light of day, India’s
misogyny (A Hater of woman) will never end.
As 2013 begins, a great
anger is evident across the land, born from the unspeakable horror of the gang
rape that has let us to speak. What we do not speak of is the issue that is at
the crux of our dysfunction- the Indian
family’s moral decline. Deep hypoerisies lie under this family’s mask;
terrible secrets hide behind its culture of religiosity and community spirit.
National Crime Records
Bureau (NCRB) data for 2011 tells us that 94.2% of all rapists are known to the
victim, meaning they are friends, family or neighbours. That men try to force
themselves on the most vulnerable is evident if you slice the Delhi data:
Nearly 60% of females raped were between two and 18 years old. It is no
surprise then that 57% of Indian teenage boys between 15 and 19-and 53% of
girls-believe it is alright for a man to beat his wife, according to the
Unicef’s ‘Global Report Card on adolescents 2012.
The vast majority of Indian
women are brought up in subservience, and they in turn ensure their daughters
remain subservient and aware of their secondary role in life. Consequently,
very few accounts of sexual abuse within families become public. The data make
clear that this-not the government’s apathies-is the overwhelming cause of
rapes.
Mindset
doesn’t fall from skies, says Taslima
“Rape has been a weapon of
war,” the writer said. “Armies do it. Community and castes inflict rapes on
women as a strategy for domination. This is an outcome of the male dominated
society that we live in; where men are megalomaniac and misogynists, and it is
considered ‘manly’ to terrorize and torture women”, said Nasrin, who has been
living in India in exile. “Girls are being tortured and raped by their fathers,
uncles and grandfathers,” she said. “I spit on the faces of these men.”
BEWARE BARBARIANS ON THE PROWL
“She had deep bite marks all
over her body. Her face was badly bruised. Most damaging were the injuries
inflicted on her private parts. The rapists had brutalized her with an iron rod
and a beer bottle, causing severe damage to her. The mutilation was deep,
injuring her intestines and abdomen,” says a doctor treating her. Shaken by her
injuries, he says that he has never seen such savagery in his 25-year career as
a doctor. A woman is raped every 20 minutes in India. We take pride in saying
65% of population is below 35 years of age and 50% is below 25 years of age.
Just look at the six who committed savagery.
THE UNFORGIVEN
The six men
who shamed the nation lived a life of deprivation. Their horrific brutality is
symptomatic of Indi’s dark urban underbelly.
Savage Six
Faces in the
crowd who turned monsters

the most brutal attacks on the victim.
The whole episode of 16th Dec brought out some very
negative behavior pattern of Indian society. The boy and the girls who had been
treated in a most gruesome manner for more than 90mts, the place in Delhi
“Mahipalpur” where they were dumped.
a)
No of people
passed by the place. Boy and the girl were lying on the road injured and
bleeding, nobody stopped and looked at them, what to say of offering any help.
b)
PCR vans did
appear on the scene. The police was also insensitive to the human touch. They
did not even help in putting the lady on the PCR Van.
c)
This attitude of
the Indian public reflects the indifferent attitude ¼xSj
ftEesnkj ukxfjd½.
d)
Even on reaching
the hospital they could not be offered any suitable cover on their bodies.
Reflects total insensitivity.
All these attitudinal behaviors are peculiar to India.
Why are we facing such insensitive India. Biggest
problem is we are too many-Population is exploding 1.25 billion now (125
crore), 1.4 billion by 2025 (140 cr), 1.6 billion by 2050 (160 cr) and 2
billion by the end of the century (200 cr).
Supply is too much and demand is less, we have lost the value of life.
Are we serious in shaping a well developed balanced
and progressive India.
We need to have a (just a few suggestion)
a. Defined
population Policy
b. Political
Reform - Stop mushrooming of political outfits. Stop corruption &
criminalization of politics.
c. Electoral Reform - Any individual who is charged for rape, murder,
attempt to murder, and embezzlement of funds should be barred for election,
till the individual is acquitted by the court. Out of total 4835 legislatures
and Parliamentarians 1448 fall in the category of corrupt/criminal elements.
Are we
serious to save India?
